Official Statement: Possible Closures & Restrictions for Calgary Restaurants

The Alberta Hospitality Association has just been informed that the City of Calgary is considering possible restrictions or closures on restaurants to help conserve water in response to the recent water feeder main break on June 5.

While we acknowledge that no official decision has yet been reached by the city, the Alberta Hospitality Association wishes to clearly state its opposition to any measures that would result in closures or restrictions on businesses.

The closure or restriction of restaurants could have a severe impact on these establishments, which already operate on narrow profit margins. Hospitality also employs thousands of Calgarians, and it is imperative to safeguard jobs for those who work in the industry.

We strongly encourage restaurants to minimize their water consumption wherever possible and additionally urge the residents of Calgary to reduce their personal water usage.
